I love Ms Callihan's steampunk series but not so much her CRs. Her CRs seem to be aimed at a younger audience. This is what I found with Fall. I mildly enjoyed the first two books in this series, despite them being a little Young Adult but perhaps my tastes have changed in the year or so since I read them because I found Fall quite flat. The denoument was obvious from the start which would be ok if getting to that predictable point was engaging. Unfortunately for me the banter between MCs which makes up a large part of the story was largely juvenile as was the interaction between band members. The characters are around 30 but act like early 20's. There were also themes and plot devices introduced which then just fizzled out. For example the appearance of Stella's father heralded a big issue which went nowhere. Similarly a big deal was made of her job but I didn't think the story really explored how this shaped her and after being raised to cause an issue between the MCs it was then largely ignored. There were a couple of scenes with the band that I found particularly distasteful. In one scene, showing great insensitivity, the so called professionals of the band (manager and publicist) ask the h to be the paid girlfriend of the H in front of the whole band. Given what had gone before in the story it was pretty obvious that the H would have the angry reaction he did and his so called closest friends should have known this. I also didn't much like the conversation about masturbation between the band members - I guess this shows my age; I'm well past finding all the euphemisms for masturbation amusing.

Most disappointing for me was the h. Stella started off as sassy and independent but she quickly became too moony and love struck around the H. I also felt that given her knowledge of John and his condition that she gave up far too easily when he threw her out, particularly given her job which required empathy. She knew what he was doing but didn't stick with him and help him work through it.

The one positive in this story for me is the portrayal of depression which from my limited experience rang true.

Finally the number of typos and missed out words and mixed up sentence structures was really annoying. This is forgivable for an indie author but Ms Callihan is well established though I note this book is published by an independent publisher Plain Jane; they clearly aren't doing their job very well.

John (Jax) and Stella (button) have such a story for you that you won't want to rush through. It's a book to savor like a pint of mint ice cream (see what I did there?). Seriously this book will blow you out of the water.

These two are real, they expose/reveal themselves and show you that you don't have to face the darkness alone. Kristen wrote their sad, heartbreaking and triumphant story with respect and brought to light the tragedies that have taken too many great people way too soon.

There is humor, characters who could be anyone that deal with ups and downs of life and an inspiring story that needs to be read.

I pre-ordered and as soon as I could, I feel into this book. I loved it's voice and passion. Music is one thing every one loves and just like music you'll love the lyrics of Jax and Button.
I have loved this series. In particular the last book in the series was EXCELLENT. however this book was a major downer. The heroine was just boring. Kristen tried to give her some meaty background with a loser father and the loss of her mother when she was young. But seriously she has no drive, ambition and frankly she was just boring. The hero was also boring. I feel like this book was just a vehicle for Kristen to talk about depression and suicide, which I can appreciate, but even wi5 that as a public service message , there was not enough interesting love story. I do love all her books, but this one was just a big NO for me☹️
I've been eagerly anticipating Jax's book and it didn't disappoint! There are serious themes at play but also a lot of swoony and giddy moments. Jax and Stella are relatable in their own quirks and different ways. The flirty banter and bickering is just as entertaining and fun. Not to forget it highlights the importance of mental health and how sometimes we don't see the hard parts of someone. Jax has many layers to him and even with his troubled side he is a good guy.

The fall between Jax and Stella felt realistic and though it had fumbling moments those are the ones that made it the best. Acknowleding theose feelings that simmered is something else, there was a comfort and intimacy in their interactions. I honestly loved them together., they accepted each other flaws and all. Stella was awesome and cares a lot, a good egg. Jax got under her skin but it's Stella that made an impression in her quirks. What I loved about this story is that it comes from the heart and something meaningful to the author as well. Jax underneath his charm and persona lies someone who has dark moments he battles through. Everyone has struggles we don't always see, Stella's job as a friend is unusual everyone needs a friend though and she does too.

I loved the Kill John band members little bits in this, those guy are fun. Scottie still amuses me to no end. The friendship between the guys is also strong and great to see. The way Kristen Callihan wrote this story is beautiful and heartfelt romance with a poignant message. I'm excited for more of this series.

I like the feeling of family between the characters etc. What I did not enjoy were the missing words, misspellings and scene inconsistencies in the story. How can Stella wonder why John hasn't called or texted when not 5 pages before it was written that when John called her, her phone was not in service? Being a line editor myself, I found I wasn't able get into my zone with all the small mistakes.
